In Texas, the Doughnuts Come Together for State Pride like a Cowboy Boot

Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, that is a giant cowboy boot made out of doughnuts in Lone Star State colors. If you’re from out of town, this all may seem a little silly. Until you remember that this is Texas, y’all, and even the doughnuts have state pride to form the world’s largest doughnut boot. Not sure what the competition was like, but it was easily crushed by the toe of this boot.

According to Austin360, This giant cowboy boot of doughnuts was at the Cowboy Breakfast this morning (March 3), the annual kick-off for Rodeo Austin at the Long Center Terrace right on the bank of the Colorado River. The doughnuts and display were dreamed up by Krispy Kreme and Farm Credit Bank of Texas.

The doughnuts weren’t available until after the breakfast because, well, it was a dang good photo opportunity. However, patrons certainly did not go hungry with chuckwagon cooks serving up pancakes, syrup, sausage wraps (decidedly not kolaches), and fried catfish strips.

Rodeo Austin continues in the afternoon with a two-day BBQ Austin competition where over 100 teams will compete in serious flaming competition for chicken, ribs, beans, and almost every side you can imagine. There’s a carnival and fairground portion because honestly, what is the rodeo without rides and happy faces?

@rodeoaustin kicks off today with #Cowboybreakfast and biscuits & gravy for all!

As reported by Austin360, “proceeds from BBQ Austin go toward Rodeo Austin’s mission of Promoting Youth Education – Preserving Western Heritage. In 2016, Rodeo Austin awarded nearly $2 million to the youth of Texas.”

It’s time to break that record so if you’re in town, head on out to Rodeo Austin this weekend.
