Dogfish Head's New Release is the Ultimate Survival Beer

If there were ever a time to drink a beer, it would be when the world was coming to an end. But if you could only drink one more beer, what would it be? Dogfish Head Craft Brewery has gone ahead and taken care of that for us. Brewed as a solution to the age old question, "What beer would you want with you if you were stuck on a desert island?", the off-centered folks created the ultimate off-centered beer for survivalists called It's the End of the Wort As We Know it.

What's cleverly named like an R.E.M song is the missing piece to any apocalypse prepping, beer minded survivalist's survival bunker. More than just a beer, It's the End of the Wort As We Know It is a 9-percent Belgian-style fruit ale packed with essential nutrients.

Containing more than 90 percent of the daily recommended serving of folic acid and more vitamin B complex than your cheap light lager, this "super-unique, nutrient-rich 'survivor' beer" won't only give you a buzz as the world ends - thank you 9-percent - but in the off chance you face a post-apocalyptic situation, it will give you sustenance - at least in theory.

"Myself and six other co-workers from various departments at Dogfish set out to brew the most survivalist-oriented beer Dogfish has ever made and packed it with a bunch of delicious culinary ingredients resulting in a ton of goodness in the form of essential vitamins and amino acids," stated Dogfish Head founder and CEO Sam Calagione.

So what's in this life-promoting beer that could deem it worthy of a survival kit better than the rest? It's packed with a complex mix of nutrient-packed superfoods. We're talking blueberries, goji berries, acai, purple sweet potatoes, chia seeds, rose hips, spelt, quinoa, oats, and flax seed. It sounds like a superfood protein bar, and it kind of is, but in the best liquid form ever, beer.

While Calagione clarifies that Dogfish Head is "not making any health claims in association with this beer," it's slightly tart, jammy blueberry, cranberry, and cherry flavors deems it worthy of trying. I mean, it is the end of the world, it's worth a shot right?

Dogfish Head thought a step further and hand-packaged the 750ml beer bottles of It's the End of the Wort As We Know It with a few survival kit goodies. For $45 you will not only receive a bottle, but you will also get a Dogfish branded Swiss army knife so you don't have to try and pry open the bottle with your teeth come the end of time.

That's not all, the bottle is safely wrapped in a solar blanket with a paracord. So should you need to protect your beer or just so happen to survive the apocalypse, you can keep warm without letting a fire send off smoke signals to looters or other potentially dangerous creatures. Lastly, should "you accidentally drop your survival beer in quicksand" you can use the paracord to save your beer. Laugh now, but come the apocalypse, you'll be happy you came prepared with the definitive survival beer.

If you can't wait to get your hands on this limited-edition Dogfish Head beer, or the apocalypse happens and you need to find it, It's the End of the Wort As We Know It will be released at the Milton Brewery January 27 at 11am, along with two sixtels on draft for tasting. I recommend lining up now, because with only 200 bottles available for sale, things could get ugly.
