If you had any doubt springtime was upon us in Texas, the beginning of crawfish season will surely set you straight. Three Mud Bug events are set for Saturday, March 25, alone in Austin and you’ll just have to take your pick of the one that best suits your style.
To help you plan your weekend, we’ve broken down the Austin-area crawfish boils around the city.
Crawfish Boil Smoke Out Saturday
Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden
Beloved in the Austin beer scene for its 103 different beers on tap, Banger’s is the quintessential Saturday spot. The sausages on March 25, though, will pair well with the Crawfish Boil Smoke Out Saturday, an annual event at the beer garden every spring.
So what can you expect to find at Banger’s in addition to Mud Bugs piled high on cardboard-covered tables? The Smoke Out plate includes crawfish, potatoes, corn, and mushrooms like any true Texas boil does.
That’s not all, however, as the full music lineup for the event is phenomenal. Starting at 12 p.m., The Bluegrass Outfit will play until 2:30 p.m. where they’ll be relieved by One Eye Open.
Fan of the Boxcar Preachers? Perfect, since they’ll follow at 5 p.m., with Dead Music Capital Band going on at 7:30 p.m. The 10 p.m. music slot will be Blues Posse, known around the Texas music scene for supplying some serious jams.
The 2nd Annual Crawfish Boil
If the Bangers scene or Rainey St isn’t your thing, never fear because Haymaker has you covered. The neighborhood restaurant, reminiscent of hometown joints across the country, is throwing its 2nd Annual Crawfish Boil this Saturday, March 25.
A craft beer lovers’ paradise, Haymaker knows what the people want with its Poutine that would pair pretty nicely with the Crawfish Boil.
The restaurant will have over 1,000 pounds of crawfish with a boil comprised of potatoes, carrots, sausage, onion and garlic.
There are crazy beer and drink specials, including $2 White Trash Cans and $1 Jell-O shots. What is a crawfish boil without an ice cold beer and a Jell-O shot?
