Hooked on Vodka Red Bull? Coffee Infused Red Wine Is Your New Fix

If you think a Vodka Red Bull is the pinnacle of alcohol and energy drink combinations, it's time to try a grown up version of the super buzzy drink. Apothic Wines is offering a new coffee infused red wine blend, combining wine with cold brew coffee.

Often associated with hipster coffee snobs, cold brew coffee has been growing in popularity over the last few years and is now showing up at restaurant chains from Starbucks to Chick-fil-A.

"Last year during the long hours of harvest, I joined the cold brew craze myself," said Deb Juergenson, Apothic winemaker, in a press release. "Quickly, I realized that many of the characteristics in cold brew coffee and red wine naturally complement each other. This led us to experiment with a few blends, eventually leading to the seamless creation of Apothic Brew, which brings together red fruit notes and subtle mocha essences of cold brew."

Cold brew coffee is made differently than regular brewed coffee. The beans are given a course grind then soaked in cold water, usually for between 12 and 24 hours. After the ground coffee is strained out, the resulting concentrate is diluted with water. It's far less acidic than brewed coffee, with a smooth, not-as-bitter flavor that appeals to a broad range of people.

Apothic infuses their dark red wine with cold brew coffee to create a unique blend that meshes the best flavors of both.

Christine Jagher, Apothic's director of marketing said, "We've always sought to break the mold to bring our fans products we know they will love. Apothic Brew is a game changer that offers the best of both worlds - cold brew and wine - and I can't wait for people to try it."

Coffee infused red wine follows another popular trend: red wine hot chocolate. Like coffee infused red wine, the easy combination of homemade hot chocolate and red wine melds the best flavors of each drink.

The new wine will be available at retail locations starting in April. It's a small-batch limited release, so if you want to try a grown up drink that both wakes you up and mellows you out, find a store with Apothic's locator.
