The 5 Thanksgiving Recipes from Texas State Fair Winners You Can Make at Home

Thanksgiving is right around the corner which means delicious home-cooked comfort food. And what's better than making your meal using a recipe from one of your Texas neighbors? This year we are bringing you five original dishes from the 2017 State Fair of Texas Creative Arts Competition.

From sweet potato casserole to banana pudding, these five recipes will make your Texas Thanksgiving shine.

1. Sweet Potato Casserole with Pecan Topping

Created by Sarah J. Smith of Fort Worth, this Sweet Potato Casserole has all the fixin's including heavy cream, cinnamon, nutmeg and chopped pecans.

As the first place winner of One-Pot Wonders, you'll go crazy for this simple casserole with Texas flair. Find the recipe here.

2. Fresh Green Beans A La Texas

Coming in from Euless, Judy Spencer-Creed created Fresh Green Beans A La Texas as a speedy dish to serve with your holiday meal. It's the perfect alternative to a traditional green bean casserole.

Fresh green beans really shine from the minimal cooking of this dish, so keep an eye on the beans while they cook to keep them nice and crunchy. Find the recipe here.

3. Cheesy Corn Pie

Suzy Craven of Coppell has come up with a delicious Cheesy Corn Pie made with fresh corn, cheddar cheese and panko bread crumbs.

She suggests serving it with a hot salsa to give this pie an extra little kick. We'll take you up on that, Suzy. Find the recipe here.

4. Caramel Banana Pudding

This Caramel Banana Pudding created by Debbi Hamilton of Dallas, is so sweet and homey. She begins by making a thick caramel sauce of sugar, water, heavy cream, butter and salt, then cooks up a vanilla pudding. Bananas, vanilla wafers, and whipped topping completes the recipe.

The pudding is assembled in a casserole dish or a 2-quart bowl. We suggest using a glass bowl so you can see all the distinct layers. Find the recipe here.

5. Lovely Lemon Meringue Pie

End your meal with this Lovely Lemon Meringue Pie from Kate S. Rovner of Plano. Rovner's secret to her pie crust is frozen butter-flavored crisco, which makes the pie dough extra flaky.

A filling of lemon curd is topped with a creamy whipped egg white meringue which is then baked to achieve a golden brown crust. Yum! Find the recipe here.
